Remember that time back in February when Township played a killer set at Great Scott to celebrate the release of Light Years on vinyl? Here are some pictures to jog your memory…
Thank you to everyone who came out to the Photos by Johnny Anguish opening reception at The Verb Hotel last night. It really made this old man feel special. I had a lot of fun putting these photos together. I hope everyone enjoyed them. I talked to the good folks at Vanyaland before the show. You can read the nice piece they put together right here.
If you couldn’t make it out to The Verb last night, don’t fret. The photos will be on display until mid-April when they’ll find homes elsewhere in the hotel. Swing by and have a look.
If you’re wondering what you might see, here are the photos on display. Imagine them bigger, framed, matted and hanging on a yellow wall. Or don’t imagine anything and go see the photos for yourself. They’re real, touchable objects. Please don’t touch the real objects.

Life Goes On (Until It Don’t) EP

OK, folks, time to put on our optimist hats. Sure there may be multiple feet of snow on the ground and piles of the dirty white stuff that reach high up into the sky, but winter can’t go on forever. Summer will be here in no time, complete with a brand new crop of summer songs. Looking back, it’s safe to say that the summer of 2014 was the Summer of Dudes Summer of Township. These guys put out four top notch EPs that season. I’ve written about a couple of them, but failed to mention my favorite. The Life Goes On (Until It Don’t) EP is the most seminal, horn throwing, unabashedly rocking set of tunes the band has bundled for mass consumption. The title track is hooky, vital and impossible not to sing along with. “Diamonds In The Floorboards” might be the band’s best live tune.* The recorded version is just as killer. The vocals are impassioned while the riff goes for the jugular. EP opener “Chevy Nova 1979” sounds exactly like a song with that title should sound. So, roll down the windows. Crank the stereo. Township just provided the getaway soundtrack for your next big heist.

You already knew that Township rules, right? OK. Just making sure we’re clear on that. They put on another killer show at The Middle East for the Goddamn Draculas release show.
Township. Man, oh, man. It ain’t gimmick, mimic, tribute or homage. It’s just the sound of five guys plugging in and riffing away. They released their new album at The Lizard and I can’t stop listening to it. That’s OK. Let it roll.
Equal parts muscle car and interstellar spaceship, Township brought Crash Safely to a magnificent conclusion. These guys are the stuff of legend. Their rocket-fuel-burning-454 of a set blew minds while raising money for the National MS Society.
There’s a show I’d like to go to just about every night somewhere in this town. Some nights it can be tough to choose just one. Friday night is going to be impossible. Fourteen lovable Daykamp Music alumni will be taking the stage at five different area venues on October 17th. My brain is melting. What to do? Let’s see if we can figure this out together.
Let’s start at The Middle East Upstairs for a very good cause. Township, White Dynomite, The Field Effect and Triple Thick will be there for Crash Safely along with Animal Hospital. That’s alotta rock, with the money raised going to support The National MS Society. (FB Event)
Maybe you want to do good with your show-going dollars, but that show isn’t your thing? You could always head next door to TT’s for the latest installment of the Boston Does Boston benefit for the Animal Rescue League Of Boston. Cask Mouse, The Rationales, The Daily Pravda, Muy Cansado and The Fatal Flaw will be joined by Dave Crespo’s After Party at that one. (FB Event)

Doom Lover are on that bill, too. Daykamp Music loves them, but we secretly worry they’re plotting our demise. At least they’ll write a creepy-cool song about it. (FB Event)

If you can’t find something to like in one of those shows, there’s nothing I can do for you. Oh wait! Yes there is! You can go see Gondoliers at Cuisine en Locale with Shepherdess and Planet Of Adventure. This show is being filmed. I can’t even image what Gondoliers have up their sleeves. I can’t wait to see. Township are from another time. They may be from the past. They may be from the future. I’m not entirely sure. What I am sure of is that the slabs of riffage and rhyme they were laying down at Redstar Union last week made for one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time. Good golly.
