Thanksgiving Eve found us at The Sinclair hanging stuff on the walls, listening to music and having a few drinks for The Daykamp Poster & Photo Show. Weakened Friends are everything I was hoping they’d be after obsessing over their Gloomy Tunes EP. They opened the night with a loud, beautifully bummed-out, ’90s-inspired indie rock gut punch. We’re thankful to have found another new favorite band.
Weakened Friends – Gloomy Tunes (2015)
Weakened Friends
Gloomy Tunes
2015
It’s hard not to get excited about Weakened Friends. “Won Yet” was one of the best debut singles I’d heard in a long time. Now I’m listening to their Gloomy Tunes EP and I’m grinning from ear to ear. “Miserable” is brilliantly self-deprecating. “Main Bitch” has a distorted “Woo-ooo” melody that has me bopping my head despite my best efforts to remain stoic. “Won Yet” is included here, continuing the bad-vibes-make-good-tunes theme. Linear and unconventionally-structured mini-epic “Honestly” closes out this fine EP, making me feel exceedingly lucky to have Weakened Friends joining us for the Daykamp Poster & Photo Show. I can’t wait.

Announcing The 2015 Daykamp Poster & Photo Show with The Sheila Divine, Sidewalk Driver and Weakened Friends!
Hey, does anyone remember when we did this? That was fun. It was so much fun, we’ve been wanting to do it again. We’ve just been waiting for the right time. And waiting. And waiting. And wait… it’s time! Now we’re doing this!
On November 25th we’ll be hanging out at The Sinclair with The Sheila Divine, Sidewalk Driver and Weakened Friends. Read that lineup again. I still can’t believe we suckered these bands into playing these bands agree to play the show. To make the night even more special, Nicole Anguish of Daykamp Creative will be hanging up her poster art and I’ll be displaying prints of some of the photos I can’t seem to stop taking. We’ll even have some stuff for sale if you want to turn your home into an art gallery for people obsessed with the Boston music scene.
Now, imagine all of that goodness and top it off with the fact that this show will also serve as the release show for The Morbs, the new record from The Sheila Divine! No way! Yes way!
Come hang out with us on Thanksgiving Eve. We’ll do our best to make it a good time.

Remember when Weezer was good? Remember when a big hook, some fuzzy guitars and snappy groove could make you smile? If you do, Weakened Friends is about to make you very happy. This boisterous spawn of The Box Tiger and The Field Effect is supercharging ’90s nostalgia and making it feel fresh. If you don’t fall in love by the end of the first chorus, wait until the guitars bust loose at the 2:30 mark. Pure joy.
