Watts – On The Dial (2010)

Watts
On The Dial
2010

Watts are back.  Guess what?  They still sound like Watts.  Are you surprised?  You shouldn’t be.  Watts have their sound and they’re sticking to it.  On The Dial is well rounded power pop with its roots in good old fashioned rock n’ roll.

The album opens with the one-two punch of “On The Dial” and “Chaperone”.  Dan Kopko’s gruff voice tears through the mix with conviction.  “Afterburn” and “Time To Give The Devil His Due”, the latter sung by drummer John Lynch, get a healthy charge of AC/DC.   “Girls On Holiday” has a Phil Spector vibe (maybe it’s the guitar line nicked from “Then He Kissed Me”).   Do I hear a guiro in “Dancehall Days & Nights”?  I’m a sucker for a good guiro part. Guitarist John Blout takes a vocal turn on the hooky “She Wants To Rock”. Craig LaPointe’s lead vocals on “Don’t Mind” help to add a bit of variety late in the proceedings.  The scathing “Fight Song” is the most aggressive Watts tune to date.

On The Dial is another solid effort from Watts.  I expected nothing less.

Where to get it:

Watts @ The Rosebud Bar 3.18.2011

Aimee McGrath’s birthday celebration at The Rosebud continues with Watts…

What’s on tap?

So you want to know what’s on tap for next week? Well, I’ll tell you.

I’m still trying to get caught up on 2011 shows, so be prepared for another action packed week. I’ve got a lot more to share with you from Aimee McGrath’s birthday shindig at The Rosebud. How about a video of The Irreverends doing “Annalise”? Sounds good, right? It is. Very good. Photos and video from Watts and The Downbeat 5? Yup. The Rudds? Check. If things get really nutty I may even make it to some photos of Jordan Valentine And The Sunday Saints. Crazy.

That’s it for this week. Have a good weekend!

One Down…

Week one on this here blog thing has been fun. So far things have gone better than expected (snow aside). Thanks for that.

Did you know there’s a Facebook Page for Daykamp Music? Check it out here.

Next week is going to be another busy one. Brendan Boogie And The Best Intentions, The Figgs, The Acre and The Irreverends are all on tap. You say you want more from The Dirty Truckers, Watts and Sodafrog? Consider it done.

Watts @ Precinct 3.4.2011

Looking for a band that dials in a solid set of rock n’ roll time and time again? Watts is your band. Their song “She Wants To Rock” is being included on the CD sampler that comes with the May issue of Classic Rock Magazine. Or just pick up a copy of their new record, On The Dial.

Here are some photos from the band’s March 4th show at Precinct.

What The Hell Just Happened?!?

I think I just started a blog.

I mean, there are some pictures I took of The Russians, The Painted Lights and Sodafrog at Precinct back in January down there a little lower on the page. That was a good show. There are a lot of good shows here in Boston. I try to go to them when I can. I bring my camera with me and take pictures. I’ve been doing this for years. I’ve also been building websites for years. You’d think I would have done this sooner.

Time to get the goat by the horns and do something with all of these pictures I’ve got lying around. I’ll start by catching up on this year’s shows. Look for pictures of The Dirty Truckers, Watts, The Downbeat 5, Corin Ashley, Brendan Boogie and a bunch of other bands to start showing up here soon. I’ve got some videos to post, too. Look out Tom Baker!

Once I get caught up on 2011, I’ll start digging into the archives. I’m going to be busy…
