I hinted at it after their show at The Middle East Downstairs and I’ll say it clearly now: Parlour Bells’ new material is sounding tr… tr.. tr… What’s the word I’m looking for? Oh, right. Truly fantastic.
Parlour Bells @ The Middle East Downstairs 3.22.2014
Where ya been, Parlour Bells? Haven’t seen you around much lately. Oh, you’ve been writing some new tunes like “Celebrities On Ice?” In that case, take as much time as you need.
It’s good to have you back, though…
400? 200? Whatever’s cool with me.
Guess what. Daykamp Music TV is now playing more than 400 videos from 200 artists. Pretty cool, right?
Maybe you want to see some of the Boston Music Awards nominees for Video of the Year? They’re in there. Check out the work of Kingsley Flood, Mean Creek and Parlour Bells. You won’t regret it.
What else? We’ve got the new ones from Parks, Walter Sickert & The Army Of Broken Toys and Coke Weed. We’ve got old vids from Juliana Hatfield and Cold Water Flat. We’ve even got new and old videos from today’s Video of the Day artist, Dinosaur Jr. Whatever’s cool with me.
Parlour Bells @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 10.10.2013
Parlour Bells dazzled the crowd at The Daykamp Poster & Photo Show with their always entertaining mix of glam and grit.
Announcing The Daykamp Poster & Photo Shows!
We’re putting on a a couple of shows with rock bands, photos and posters at TT’s in October! It’s going to be more awesome than we can put into words. That’s why we had Richard Bouchard do it for us! Here’s a special guest post from the Indie Rock Ranger with the details…
When I was first hired to do booking at TT the Bear’s Place, one of the first things I wanted to do was set up a show with Nicole and Johnny Anguish of Daykamp Creative and Daykamp Music, respectively. I’ve been hiring Nicole to create show posters since back in the Boston Band Crush days, usually giving her no guidance other than the list of bands and the date of the show. She always delivers an incredibly eye-catching, colorful design that doesn’t just provide information; it’s something I want to hang on my wall forever. Then there’s Johnny, always front and center for a rock show before posting amazing photo recaps on his Daykamp Music website. They tirelessly support the music community here, and knowing that I wasn’t the only one to feel that way, I felt that it was high time they present a show. Not just any show, mind you, I wanted them to pick the bands – artists they’ve worked with over the years and bands they’re longtime fans of – but I also wanted to display their work in the club for everyone to see. After some brief discussion, Nicole emailed me back: “We’re thinking we need to do two nights…”
Here’s what they came up with:

Parlour Bells @ Make Music Harvard Square 6.22.2013
It was a gorgeous day in Cambridge for Make Music Harvard Square. Of the nine or so acts I really would have liked to catch, I managed to see two. Instead of focusing on all of the bands I missed, I will bask in the glory of my boy referring to Goddamn Glenn as “Shiny Pants Guy” when we were talking later about the fun we that afternoon. I’m feeling pretty lucky.
Parlour Bells @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 5.9.2013
Richard Bouchard has been putting together some pretty great shows over at TT’s lately. This particular Thursday night kicked off with Parlour Bells filling the club with charisma, wit and moody pop tunes. Their tactful mix of songs and showmanship never gets old.
Parlour Bells @ The Middle East Upstairs 3.21.2013
It can be tough having a late slot on a school night. You have to dig a little deeper to keep yourself going. It ain’t glamorous loading out late and getting up early. Some bands can’t cut it. They pack up and go home. Other bands put on their shiny jackets and step onto that stage like there’s no place else they’d rather be.

Farewell To The Phoenix
It’s sinking in. The news that The Phoenix has had it’s last words is hitting the area music scene hard. Others have written about the details and the impact on the arts community far better than I can. That’s not what this is about. This is about thanks.
My first published photo was in the pages* of The Phoenix back in 2001. It was for a feature on The Decals.** It was one of the first promo photos I ever took, as evidenced by the chain link fence in the background. I was beside myself when I saw it in print.*** My photo in The Phoenix?!?! No way! It really meant a lot to me.
I want to offer a personal thank you to all the folks who have championed the Boston music scene at The Phoenix over the years. You’ve given valuable exposure to so many bands I love.**** May you go forth like the seeds of a dandelion on a summer breeze. I hope you turn the whole F’n town yellow.
* With a thumbnail on the cover!
** Another footnote! Nicole Anguish was a member of The Decals. Her first design job was at The Phoenix. She’s now the creative force behind Daykamp Creative.
*** It felt a lot like hearing one of my songs on the radio for the first time, which happened to come courtesy of WFNX.
**** Including one I was in and one I married into.
