The Downbeat 5 ripped it up at Viva La Eva Dos to support Eva Lipton. Just Like they did at last year’s benefit. Just like they do every time they take the stage.
Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents @ Brighton Music Hall 12.13.2013
Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents never fail to entertain. Their set at Brighton Music Hall for the Boston Does Boston benefit included holiday numbers, a Township cover* and a bunch of their ’60s-girl-group-meets-’70s-orchestral-pop originals. They’re one of the best live acts in town, nodoubtaboutit.
* Pick up the studio version of the Township cover on Boston Does Boston Vol. 1 & 2.
Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 9.12.2013
Watching Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents perform makes me happy. There’s a lot of joy in their music, be it the girl group R&B that launched the band or their more recent adventures in electro-symphonic pop. It all sounds right. It all sounds good. They closed out the Thursday night of TT’s 40th Anniversary week.
The Dents @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 6.13.2013
The Viva La Eva!* benefit got a swift kick in the pants when The Dents took the stage. It was an action packed 20 minutes…

Jenny Dee & Several Men Of Mystery – Jenny Dee & Several Men Of Mystery (2013)
Jenny Dee & Several Men Of Mystery
Jenny Dee & Several Men Of Mystery
2013
Three country tunes from Jenny Dee and some of her very talented friends?* Yes, please. Opening track “You Had It All” is a duet with Roy Sludge. I’m pretty sure I knew this one was going to be great before I even heard it.** “Never” has suitably weary and worn backing vocals from Bill Janovitz and Chris Toppin. It’s always a treat when those two team up. Also, I’m a sucker for a weepy lapsteel. The EP closes with Jenny Dee & Several Men Of Mystery tearing it up on “Looking For Clues.” Jenny notes that this song is a reworked tune from her gig with The Downbeat Five. Given the song’s fiery nature, it’s certainly not hard to believe. The band really cuts loose here. Sometimes sad songs can make you happy.
Where to get it:
* Duke Levine, Bill Janovitz, Chris Toppin, Ed Valauskas, Tom Arey, Roy Sludge, Matt Pynn, and Ben Zecker? Good, Lord. Even Eric Salt gets in on the action, playing the tambourine on “Looking For Clues.”
** It is.
The Dents @ Radio 10.12.2012
The Dents were the final act of the Bands For Babs benefit. They closed out the event with a snappy set that went over big with the Radio crowd.
Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents @ Radio 10.11.2012
There was plenty of heart at Bands For Babs. The bands, raffle donors, the fine folks at Radio and everyone who came out to the shows made sure of that. On Thursday night, Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents brought the soul…
The Dents @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 11.18.2011
The Dents have reunited for one night of pissed off songs about ex-boyfriends. It’s well worn territory, but the masses huddled in front of the TT’s stage are getting exactly what they want. I lose count of how many times someone yells “Don’t they sound great!?!” into my ear during the set.* It would be safe to say that those who have patiently waited years for this moment will not leave disappointed.
* This happens quite a bit after the set as well, people raising their voices to hear themselves over the ringing in their ears. Don’t forget your earplugs, folks.
Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents – “Bandit of Love” b/w “That Moon Was Low” (2011)
Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents
“Bandit of Love” b/w “That Moon Was Low”
2011
Holy smokes! Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents are back to steal your heart and soul. The A-side of this digital single is a number called “Bandit Of Love”. It’s pure girl-group goodness with a spy music twist. This thing just jumps out of the speakers. What a band! What a recording! Let Jenny and the gang take you back to a time when music was fun, even for the brokenhearted.
Once you catch your breath, grab your best girl and head back out onto the floor for “That Moon Was Low”. The Graham Parker-penned B-side is a ’50s style slow dance. Lovely.
