Roy Sludge and BBQ. It worked last year. It worked the year before that. I hope it works again next year, because listening to this trio play in the warm spring air of the Lexington Battle Green BBQ Festival is something I’ve come to look forward to.
The Interrobang closed out the Four Point Retraints release show at the Davis Square Theatre with a churning set of guitar rock. It would be one of their last as The Interrobang. A name change is in the works starting with their show back at this venue next month.

Four Point Restraints released their Malice EP at the Davis Square Theatre this past Saturday with a dark, driving, swashbuckling hoedown. There were cookies.
I hinted at it after their show at The Middle East Downstairs and I’ll say it clearly now: Parlour Bells’ new material is sounding tr… tr.. tr… What’s the word I’m looking for? Oh, right. Truly fantastic.
What’s the proper way to usher your new album into the world? Well, Aloud celebrated the release of It’s Got To Be Now with a 19 song blowout of a set at a packed Middle East Upstairs. That seemed to work out pretty well.
The Field Effect are working on a new album. If the songs they played at The Middle East this past Friday are any indication, it’s going to be a goodie. If they’re not an indication, then expect a record of sweet Anne Murray covers.
The Bynars are creating some of the most inventive electro-tinged power pop out there. Each undeniable hook is balanced with a well-timed glitch to keep you on your toes. They were at The Middle East Upstairs this past Friday night.

Instantly familiar and blowing in like a breath of fresh air, Spirit Kid Is Happening has quickly found a place in my heart. Take a listen below. “Slow It Down” flat out smokes. “Is This Heaven” is a slow dance suckerpunch. “Making Excuses” would make The Raspberries proud. Singling out a few songs isn’t doing the rest of them justice. They all find their sweet spot and deliver the goods. Is Happening is a garage pop masterpiece.

Frenetic and entertaining, Answerman put on quite a show at TT’s. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday night.
