The Walter Sickert And The Army Of Broken Toys album release party at Brighton Music Hall is giving me my first opportunity to catch Ruby Rose Fox with her full band. I was impressed when she played a stripped back set for Lounge Act. I’m doubly impressed here. The sound is timeless and the show is tight. When does The Rumble start again?
Doom Lover @ Precinct 3.22.2013
On a night when a lot of things were out of the ordinary, Doom Lover pulled off something extraordinary. While Jeffrey Vachon sang his heart out, two of his bandmates performed a shadow puppet show that demonstrated the kind of heart this band has. I’ve never seen anything like it in a rock club. I won’t soon forget it.
Oh, Doom Lover can rip it up pretty good, too…
Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling @ Precinct 3.22.2013
Tonight’s show was advertised as having a vaudeville bent, so seeing an oboe and viola up on stage with Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling doesn’t seem that strange. Then again, their performance was preceded by ukulele confessions, gut-wrenching music-as-therapy, a “ventriloquist”, burlesque and Tad McKitterick. My sense of normal might be a bit off right now.

Parlour Bells @ The Middle East Upstairs 3.21.2013
It can be tough having a late slot on a school night. You have to dig a little deeper to keep yourself going. It ain’t glamorous loading out late and getting up early. Some bands can’t cut it. They pack up and go home. Other bands put on their shiny jackets and step onto that stage like there’s no place else they’d rather be.
Parlour Bells…

The Susan Constant @ The Middle East Upstairs 3.21.2013
The Susan Constant has something special going on right now. They kicked off a four three band bill at The Middle East last Thursday. Boston’s favorite band named after the largest ship of the English Virginia Company had the songs and the presence to get the night going full speed ahead in a hurry.
