Darling Pet Munkee draw their inspiration from the ads in the back of old comic books. They wear skeleton costumes and X-Ray Specs. They’ve got to be one of the geekiest bands around. That’s what makes them so fun.
I only caught the very end of Eric Martin And The Illyrians’ set, but what I heard sounded rockin’.
When I caught Fat Creeps at PA’s a couple of months ago they seemed detached and indifferent. I found their nonchalance to be quite intriguing. Saturday night at Precinct was different. Fat Creeps were still low-key cool, but this time around they fed off of the crowd’s enthusiastic response.
Mellow Bravo is firing on all cylinders right now. They’re loud, raucous, soulful, heavy and wildly entertaining. Their new material is flat-out devastating. With the added depth these songs bring to their set, Mellow Bravo can manipulate the pacing for maximum impact. That’s exactly what they did at TT’s.
I’m down with Mellow Bravo, The Dirty Truckers, Cropduster and Murcielago playing every Independence Eve. Let’s make it a tradition.
Short set? Yeah, The Dirty Truckers got pinched. Still, I’ll take a short set over no set any day with these guys…
Cropduster grooves like the outer edges of a whirlpool. It’s a slow, steady draw that eventually plunges you into darkness. Their songs weigh heavy on your soul as you go under for good.
Murcielago descended upon TT’s from Maine for an Independence Eve rock ‘n’ roll show. The band sparked up some excitable stoner rock thunder to kick off the evening.
A night that featured fantastic sets by Orbit, Garvy J. And The Secret Pockets Of Hope And Resistance and Parlour Bells would have been a fitting send off for WFNX. Event organizer Bruce McDonald and his crew had bigger plans. They wanted O Positive to close out the night. Bruce has a lot of history with the band from his days at the station. O Positive’s animated set was a wonderful way to end an event that raised over $15,000 for The Progeria Research Foundation. Now that’s a fitting send-off for WFNX.
Throughout Orbit’s set at We Want The Airwaves: A WFNX Tribute there was an enthusiastic gentleman shouting praise at the band. While his language was rather colorful, I agreed with the general sentiment: Orbit was great. The band complimented their own classic originals (including “Medicine” and “Bicycle Song”) with a cover of The Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind?” that played well to a crowd basking in ‘FNX nostalgia.
