My last photographic gasp of 2015 fixed its gaze upon the wonders of Walter Sickert And The Army Of Broken Toys supporting the DCF Kids Fund at Once.

Walter Sickert And The Army Of Broken Toys brought steamcrunk to Redstar Union. There was even a special collaboration with Tad from Sidewalk Driver.

Everything Walter Sickert And The Army Of Broken Toys do is big. Every show is an event. So what did they do for the release of their Soft Time Traveler album? They went even bigger and more event-y, of course. Have a look…

Mötörböat @ The Middle East Downstairs 9.8.2012
Last year, One Night Band 2 alumni Bedss came out to shut down One Night Band 3 with a drunken rousing rendition of “Cum On Feel The Noize.” This year, the drunken rowdy sing-along tradition continued. Mötörböat rocked the hell out at last year’s event. They returned to the scene of the crime to close out the 4th edition of this treasured Boston institution. Mötörböat tore through a couple of their original tunes like they had firecrackers in their pants. Then a cast of thousands* got up on stage to end the night with a drunken spirited cover of “You Shook Me All Night Long.”
* OK, a cast of tens. This included One Night Band participants past and present, organizers and, well, just about anyone else who wanted to jump on stage.
Grandfather Time Bomb @ The Middle East Downstairs 9.8.2012
The last of the year’s new crop of one night bands was Grandfather Time Bomb. Annie Hoffman, Caroline Toth, Evelyn Pope, Jared Egan and Walter Sickert formed a group with a sinister undercurrent. It was a flash of dark rock on a bright night for Boston rock. One Night Band 4 birthed eight new bands, raised more than $3000 for good causes* and still had one more surprise to come…
* Zumix and Girls Rock Campaign Boston!
Here’s a sneak peek at this year’s One Night Band!
One Night Band 4 is tonight! That means we’ve got 8 brand new bands scattered around the city writing songs and learning covers for the big show. Once again I was lucky enough to get to shoot the official photos for a few of the acts.* This year we got some classic brick wall action going. Here’s a sneak peek at some of what you’ll see tonight at the Middle East Downstairs!
Big Head Big Ears
Candace Clement, Rice Edmonston, Nicholas Ward, Peter Moore, Aaron Silverstein
Grandfather Time Bomb
Walter Sickert, Jared Egan, Caroline Toth, Evelyn Pope, Annie Hoffman
Lesbian Frankenstein
Molly Zenobia, Steven Lord, Dave Stoops, Bryan Hinkley
* Mary Flatley took the rest. I’m sure they’ll pop up soon. Keep an eye out.
Walter Sickert And The Army Of Broken Toys @ Brighton Music Hall 3.16.2012
Walter Sickert and his traveling band of SteamCrunk gypsies make their way to the stage. It has already been an eclectic and memorable evening. Black Thai overpowered us with their thunderous roll. Sidewalk Driver made us a sandwich. Planetoid tried to power their spaceship with our souls and/or melt our faces — which is a better fate than Mary Widow and her seductress companions wished upon us. Now we’re being tipped on end by sights and sounds as varied as the night is long. The Army Of Broken Toys are putting their musical and physical wares on display in an attempt to bring the crowd under their spell. We tumble along, once again avoiding the grasp of Mary Widow as “Ghostbusters” rings through the rafters…
