Here I am at my final show of 2013 and Cask Mouse may be playing the best set I’ve seen all year. They’re impossibly good right now. The Sinclair is teeming with energy, harmonies, hoots, hollers, twang and grit. It’s pure joy. I love this band. I love, love, love, LOVE this band.
The Sheila Divine @ The Sinclair 12.20.2013
All of New Parade, a Top 40 cover medley with Davina Yannetty and a holiday hoedown? The Sheila Divine gave us all an early Christmas present during OldJack’s Holiday Homage at The Sinclair.
OldJack @ The Sinclair 12.20.2013
For the second year in a row, OldJack’s Holiday Homage has brought a fantastic slate of local bands to the stage of The Sinclair. For their set (at their party), OldJack played all of the songs from their new What Is Home To You? album. What a wonderful night of music. Well done, OldJack.
The Rationales @ The Sinclair 12.20.2013
The Rationales always have a way of putting a smile on my face. At OldJack’s Holiday Homage, the band covered “Do They Know It’s Christmas” to close their set, changed up the words to one of their own tunes to make it a holiday number and released a new five song EP. See what I mean?
Nate Leavitt @ The Sinclair 12.20.2013
OldJack’s Holiday Homage at The Sinclair is back! Last year’s event found OldJack and friends being the first Boston acts to grace the stage of the shiny new venue. This year, three of the acts are releasing new music. Splendid! Nate Leavitt has the honor of kicking off the festivities, showcasing the songs from his new album, You, Me and The Silence. Nate and his band are in fine form.
Tallahassee @ The Sinclair 12.7.2013
Tallahassee embraced the Romp-n-Romp spirit with all their might. These guys won over the young and not-as-young gathered at The Sinclair with their big hearts and roots ‘n’ roll.
The Susan Constant @ The Sinclair 12.7.2013
The Susan Constant were up first at December’s Rock-n-Romp event. I’ve seen these guys win over all sorts of crowds, so it was no surprise to see the kids (and parents!) at The Sinclair smiling.
Minor Alps @ The Sinclair 11.23.2013
Juliana Hatfield and Matthew Caws (Nada Surf) just finished up their first tour as Minor Alps. Their final stop, at The Sinclair,* brought Juliana home to Cambridge. The respect that these two artist have for each other is quite evident. Complementary styles are in play. The sum of Minor Alps is distinct, yet familiar. Their voices work beautifully together. They sounded wonderful in the Harvard Square venue. The duo played songs from their debut record, a few Nada Surf songs, some of Juliana’s songs and a handful of covers. I could have listened to them all night.
* The lovely and talented Nicole Anguish of Daykamp Creative made an amazing poster for this show. Here it is. Nice, right?
Spirit Kid @ The Sinclair 11.16.2013
November’s Rock-n-Romp event found Spirit Kid slapping smiles across the faces of the families gathered at The Sinclair. Timeless tunes have a way of doing that.
The Luxury @ The Sinclair 11.16.2013
We brought the boys down to The Sinclair on a Saturday afternoon for November’s Rock-n-Romp event. These family friendly rock shows are a great way to spend a couple of hours for those of us with kids. The Luxury got this one started on the right foot.
