Animal Talk closed out The Susan Constant’s EP release show with an indie dance rock flourish. These guys are always a good time.
The Susan Constant @ The Middle East Upstairs 1.19.2013
The Susan Constant celebrated the release of their Shapes EP with a sold out show at The Middle East Upstairs. The enthusiasm the band has for playing live is obvious. They fed off the reaction from the fervent crowd, becoming increasingly more animated as the set went on. The Susan Constant are leaving their mark on this town. It’s fun to watch.
Slowdim @ The Middle East Upstairs 1.19.2013
Slowdim played their sometimes-spacey-sometimes-jangly pop tunes for a steadily growing crowd at The Middle East Upstairs. The band draw equally from the familiar and the adventurous, forming songs that draw you in and hold your interest. Their set was part of The Susan Constant’s EP release show.
Butterknife @ The Middle East Upstairs 1.19.2013
Butterknife have some of the best songs in this city. Don’t take my word for it. Go check out the fantastic Do The Needful. Then come back to look at these pictures of the band opening The Susan Constant’s sold out EP release show at The Middle East Upstairs.

Seabrook Power Plant @ The Middle East Upstairs 9.12.2012
OK, technically Seabrook Power Plant are from Brooklyn. Normally I wouldn’t post about a Brooklyn band here, but I feel compelled to write this for a couple of reasons. First, I think the drummer lives around here. That sorta justifies it for me. The other reason is that this was one of the craziest things I’ve seen in a long time. I’m pretty sure that was the sound your brain hears right before you go for a naked tractor ride high on bath salts. It was bananas.
Bent Knee @ The Middle East Upstairs 9.6.2012
Emily Peal And The Band Of Skinny Men @ The Middle East Upstairs 9.6.2012
Do you know what I like about Emily Peal And The Band Of Skinny Men? I like when the song starts out quiet. Maybe there’s a piano or some finger-picked guitar. Then things get a little tense. You wonder where this is going. All of a sudden there’s a brrrruuuuuuum-brrrruuuuuuum-brrrruuuuuuum-boom-thwack-boom-thwack-brrrruuuuuuum-brrrruuuuuuum-brrrruuuuuuum and you’re kind of knocked back a little from the oh-my-goodness-how-did-they-get-that-heavy wall of sound coming from the stage. It’s a neat feeling, like being 6 years old and spinning around and around until you collapse in a heap. Then you get up and do it all over again.
This was the release show for Emily’s new EP, Fine Fur Coat.
