Ruby Rose Fox @ The Sinclair 8.28.2015

I’m not really sure which words to use to describe Ruby Rose Fox that won’t sell her talents short. She’s a world class singer and performer with a crack backing band. Their Sinclair set was mesmerizing. Ruby Rose Fox can already hold an audience in the palm of her hand, yet it still feels like she’s just getting warmed up. I can’t wait to see where this goes.

Sometimes you have to burn it all to ashes and hope that, deep down, you’ve got it in you to build it all back up again. That’s exactly what Ruby Rose Fox does on “Good Friday / Gloria.” The sound is stripped down to its bruised bones. It has weight. Ruby Rose Fox sings. It has soul. A chorus of heavenly harmonies rain down. It has majesty. The song will rise again.

Team up Ruby Rose Fox’s vocals with a ripper of a tune and you’ve got a song worthy of the repeat button. “Blue Angel” layers hand claps, big backing vocals, ample amounts of reverb and a touch of fuzz on top of a pocket groove. The whole thing is dipped in the most soulful vocals found on either side of the Charles for a number that melts into your ears and fills your heads with a snappy sound. You’ll be humming it for days.

This is good. This is really good. I’m all for crazy renditions of holiday classics, but I always come back to well crafted versions that echo the originals. This here rendition of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” with Eddie Japan and Ruby Rose Fox is just right. Old school recording techniques, great vocal interplay and special guest Doug Orey on guitar make this worth the download. All of the proceeds benefiting the DCF Kids Fund make it worth a lot more.

OK, hold on a sec. Here I am trying to crank through all of these photos I’ve got from the Pipeline! at 25 shows and y’all are releasing cool new music left and right. What a week. Damn you Bob Dubrow for getting so many bands to reunite! Damn you Boston musicians for being so prolific!

While I continue to edit photos, here are some new sounds for your earholes* from Magen Tracy, Young Adults and The Curtis Mayflower. I’m even throwing in a Thin Lizzy cover from Feints and a classic duet from Nate Leavitt and Ruby Rose Fox at no extra charge. Enjoy.
