Reverse @ Moe’s Lounge 10.12.2012

Having Reverse play in a basement is a good way to see if the local building inspectors have been doing their job. I’m happy to report that Radio is still around with its structural integrity intact. That’s not to say that Ian Kennedy, Mike Piehl and Mike Quinn didn’t do their best to make the whole place come tumbling down in a cloud of frenetic guitar riffs, hypnotic harmonies and colossal grooves. Reverse put Moe’s Lounge to the test during Bands For Babs.

Watts @ Radio 10.12.2012

No benefit for Barbara Walsh would have been complete without Watts ripping it up for the Radio crowd. They are one of her favorite bands and for good reason. These guys know how to put on a good old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll show. Watts delivered at Bands For Babs.

Gymnasium @ Radio 10.12.2012

Gymnasium put their top-notch, classic rock inspired sound through its paces at Radio as part of the Bands For Babs benefit. Sweet.

Spin-Off! @ Radio 10.12.2012

Spin-Off! kicked off the second night of the Band For Babs benefit at Radio with a set of witty indie-pop.

Rule @ Radio 10.11.2012

Old school metal for a good cause. Rule closed out the first night of Bands For Babs at Radio with a blistering set. You know, typical Rule awesomeness.

The Charms @ Moe’s Lounge 10.11.2012

The Charms brought their electric sound to Moe’s Lounge as part of the Bands For Babs benefit. Something about garage rock played in a basement always feels right.

Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents @ Radio 10.11.2012

There was plenty of heart at Bands For Babs. The bands, raffle donors, the fine folks at Radio and everyone who came out to the shows made sure of that. On Thursday night, Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents brought the soul…

David Mirabella @ Moe’s Lounge 10.11.2012

Dave Mirabella is a supremely talented songwriter. He manages to get to the heart of the matter with a few chords from his Martin and a memorable melody. He played down in Moe’s Lounge as part of Bands For Babs. As an added bonus, his brother Mike (also his bandmate in The Rationales) jumped behind the kit.

The Decals @ Radio 10.11.2012

The Decals played their first show in 10 years at Bands For Babs. I was right up front watching my favorite Boston band of all time playing some of the best you-done-me-wrong punk tunes this city has ever seen. Just as I was thinking that I must be the happiest person in the room, I looked over and saw Barbara “Babs” Walsh herself standing up, singing along to every song.

OK, Babs, you win this time.

Full Disclosure: I’m married to a member of The Decals. I still think it’s safe to say that their set was awesome.*

* Because it was.
