Ajda and Tony from Black Fortress Of Opium stripped back the band’s work for a set at O’Brien’s. The gifted duo slipped into the alternate arrangements with ease, showcasing both the songs and performances.
The Wrong Shapes @ O’Brien’s Pub 12.19.2013
Another cold night in Allston after a bit of snow. Sounds like the perfect time to hit up O’Brien’s for a wonderfully eclectic bill. The Wrong Shapes were first on the stage. I still can’t believe they make all of their beautiful, textured music with just two people. I love watching them create all of their layers.
Gondoliers @ O’Brien’s Pub 8.27.2013
Gondoliers. All of their songs are about happiness and birthdays, right? No?
Nervous @ O’Brien’s Pub 8.27.2013
Nice. Coming into the night, my only familiarity with Nervous was through the “Peppermints and Scotch” video. During their O’Brien’s set I got pummeled by everything I like about loud, noisy, ’90s-influenced indie rock. I’ll take it.
The Milling Gowns @ O’Brien’s Pub 8.27.2013
Birthday shenanigans continued at O’Brien’s with The Milling Gowns.
OK, that sounds a little weird, but The Milling Gowns’ compelling, darkness-cloaked post-punk fit right into the night’s festivities.
Aquanutz @ O’Brien’s Pub 8.27.2013
Daykamp Music’s Top 5 Moments From Aquanutz Playing A Birthday Party
- Trying to guess which line of “I Remember You” would come next.
- There was a hairbrush. On the stage. On a mic stand.*
- Rodd Godd singing “Baby don’t stop / Take me to the top / And eat it like a piece of cake” while eating an actual piece of cake.
- “Bringin’ On The Heartbreak” sounded amazing. AMAZING.
- “You wanted the best… you got Aquanutz.”
* Hint: Look near Rodd Godd’s knees in the wide shots.
Pile @ O’Brien’s Pub 1.24.2013
Pile closed out an Allston Pudding night at O’Brien’s with a punishing set. These guys are impressive.
Bunny’s A Swine @ O’Brien’s Pub 1.24.2013
Bunny’s A Swine play fizzy crunchy indie rock with hooks and teeth. This is what that looked like at their recent O’Brien’s show presented by Allston Pudding…
Fat Creeps @ O’Brien’s Pub 1.24.2013
Fat Creeps are deft dealers of fuzzed out anti-bliss. I got to O’Brien’s just as they were kicking off a night presented by the folks over at Allston Pudding. The place was already packed. For good reason. Listening to Fat Creeps’ intertwining harmonies in a sweaty rock club was the perfect remedy to the bitter cold that had descended upon the city.
