The Hilken & Melissa Band rips. Need proof? Exhibit #1 would be their set opening for Superdrag at Brighton Music Hall last weekend. What’s not to like about a concoction of Fuzzy and Heavy Stud boiling over with pure rock ‘n’ roll energy. Nothing. There’s nothing not to like. Also, can I say how great it was to hear a reference to The Abbey Lounge ringing through the rafters in 2026? Effortlessly cool.
So yes, the Hilken & Melissa Band rips.
Tanya Donelly and Brian Sullivan recently released a wonderful new album under the moniker The Loyal Seas. The duo called upon Matthias Bossi, Russel Chudnofsky, Dean Fisher, Melissa Gibbs and Scott Janovitz to bring the recordings to life for a record release celebration at The Burren. The evening was a showcase for these new tunes as well as solo work from, and collaborations between, the various talented individuals on the stage. It was also a reminder of the how much joy a group of friends making beautiful music together can bring to a room.
The Abbey Lounge Reunion shows at Sally O’Brien’s brought Heavy Stud back together for a rippin’ set. Hot diggity, that was pretty great.

I’m probably the last person to post photos of Aquanutz from The Drax release show. So be it. Here are a few more shots of Boston’s finest hairspray and leather revelers headed out to where the down boys go.
The TT’s Holiday Party closed out with a set of hair metal classics from Aquanutz. There were ample amounts of hairspray and high-proof alcohol in use for authenticity. Both fueled a kind of debauchery fitting of the source material. I’m pretty sure this show landed a few people on the naughty list.
Need proof that you can be a killer rock ‘n’ roll band while playing more that four chords? Look no further than Gymnasium. This crew made their elaborate arrangements sound downright urgent at The Daykamp Poster & Photo Show. Oh, and Melissa’s “Do It For Johnny” shirt was a nice touch.

Here are a few pictures of Gymnasium at TT’s for the Travelogue maxi-single release show. This is adventurous, ’70s inspired rock ‘n’ roll delivered in grand fashion. Keep an eye on Gymnasium. They’re crazy good.
