Gracie – “Jesse” (2014)

Self described “bummer jam” artist Gracie delivers on that stylistic promise. “Jesse” is a dissonant, down-tempo number. At the risk of being cheekily alliterative, I could have thrown desperate, droning, dreary or dirge-like into that mix. It’s depressing stuff, for sure, but darkness can be therapeutic. Sometimes being in a funk is good for the soul. Misery loves company. Darkest before dawn. All that jazz. Here’s your soundtrack. Besides, the fuzzed out guitar melodies and angelic backing vocals sound good enough to crack at least a bit of a smile, no matter your mood.

Where to get it:

Fat Creeps @ Precinct 8.17.2012

Fat Creeps buzzed their way through another set at Precinct with snappy beats and lyrical wit. Dig it.

Fat Creeps @ Great Scott 7.23.2012

Well, we’ve reached the end of WFNX’s long, slow goodbye. What started with the We Want The Airwaves: A WFNX Tribute at the Paradise closes out at a venue down the street. Michael Marotta organized this three-night Boston Accents Funeral Party at Great Scott to send the station’s Boston-centric show out with a bang. Night #1 started with an angelic set of garage pop by Fat Creeps.

Fat Creeps @ Precinct 7.7.2012

When I caught Fat Creeps at PA’s a couple of months ago they seemed detached and indifferent. I found their nonchalance to be quite intriguing. Saturday night at Precinct was different. Fat Creeps were still low-key cool, but this time around they fed off of the crowd’s enthusiastic response.

The engagingly indifferent indie pop of Fat Creeps reverberated through PA’s on Friday night.
