It’s Black Friday. Black Friday is still terrible. Supporting local art isn’t. Here’s a quick list of alternative ways to spend your hard earned dollars than fighting crowds at the chain stores.

If you do go out to the stores today, think about keeping it local. Oh, and pick up something for Anngelle Wood’s Spectacular Gift Drive for DCF Kids Fund.

Goddamn Draculas – “Bethany” (2015)

Do I have a new favorite Goddamn Draculas song? I think I do. “Say Goodbye” has held that spot since first harmonizing its way into my heart, but it’s time for “Bethany” to reign. This is signature DRAX through and through. Thunderous groove. Killer keys. Huge guitars. Huger harmonies. Hugest hook. Goddamn Draculas take their classic hard rock influences and bleed out something that sounds fresh and new. Oh, and the guitar solo is perfect. “Angels Die” provides this single’s flip. It’s heavy and decidedly darker, making it a nice counterpoint to the anthemic A-side.

Now that we’ve got all of our pics posted from the Goddamn Draculas release show, we thought it’d be fitting to say a few words about this frighteningly good album. The Drax is one bloody anthem after another. Honestly, “Say Goodbye” is one of the biggest album-closer-worthy tracks to come out of Boston in recent years. It’s the second song on the record. They hook you early and don’t let go. Killer harmonies drive a stake through the dense riffs, delivering witty and honest lyrical nuggets that deliver hard truths with tongues firmly planted in cheeks. The Drax cut their hubris with humor, creating a band persona that is as endearing as it is egotistical. They’re monsters of rock. They’re Goddamn Draculas. Raise your fist and smile.

Goddamn Draculas – “Jenny” (2014)

“Jenny” was the song of the 2014 Rock ‘N’ Roll Rumble. I can’t get it out of my head. It’s punk tough and Thin Lizzy cool. It’s got killer harmonies and singable guitar melodies. “Jenny” has it all. There’s even a ‘scuse-me-while-I-kiss-this-guy level misunderstood lyric. Goddamn Draculas had me grinning ear to ear every time they played it. I can’t thank ’em enough.
