Appropriately snotty punk with a foothold in good ol’ fashioned rock ‘n’ roll goes a long way in my book. A killer cover of Cheap Trick’s “Way Of The World” didn’t hurt, either. Good times. I’ve seen the The Acro-brats at Radio a few times. It’s always fun to watch them pick a fight with their instruments.* Their scrappy set of punk ‘n’ roll for the club’s first anniversary was no exception.
* They usually win.
The Acro-brats brought a healthy does of punk rock attitude to Nicole Tammaro’s Joan Jett Tribute night. The guys tore through these classic tunes with reckless abandon. Like last year, Erin Wickens jumped onstage to help the ‘Brats close out their set with a bang.
The Acro-brats are going to rock until there’s no one left standing in the crowd. What’s that? There’s another band coming up after them? OK, The Acro-brats are going to rock until there’s no one left standing in the band. Good times.
I’m not going to beat around the bush. I’ve never seen a more accurate description of a Cocked N’ Loaded show than what Richard Bouchard wrote on Boston Band Crush when previewing this show:
Cocked N’ Loaded play some of the best drunken, we-can’t-believe-this-hasn’t-gone-flying-off-the-rails-yet rock anywhere; frontman Kyle Neeson is as depraved on stage as any Florida bath salts addict, and at least twice as cunning, so watch out.
The band lived up to every word.
One of the cool things about Joan Jett is that she’s equal parts punk and rock. The Joan Jett tribute show that Nicole Tammaro put together at The Rosebud had gobs of each. A good chunk of the punk flavor came from The Acro-brats… er… I mean… Leather Snatch! These guys tore through Jett’s catalog with attitude to spare. Oh, and when they invited Chrissy Vaccaro and Erin Wikens up on stage… crazy fun!
