Abbie Barrett and her band are magic. They did their magic thing all over Warehouse XI for Bob Voges’ birthday celebration. #BV70
Abbie Barrett @ Sally O’Brien’s 9.7.2019
There’s nothing I dislike about Abbie Barrett and her band. One might say I actually kind of enjoy their musical adventures. I mean, they’re better than alright. One might even say that Abbie’s songs are little musical treasures and that you can feel her voice in your bones and that Mike Oram perfectly layers in his guitar textures and that Ed V is probably my favorite person to watch play the 4 string Fender bass (ever) and that Rice pretty much rules no matter what he’s doing (in this case, drumming just the right amount of drums) and that “Better Machine” might have been the best song released in 2018.
One might say those things.
Abbie Barrett And The Last Date – “That Shame” (2015)
Abbie Barrett And The Last Date
“That Shame”
2015
The latest single from Abbie Barrett And The Last Date is a dark and driving dynamo. “That Shame” is a layered with wailing guitars, haunting backing vocals and a locked-in rhythm section. All of this is in support of Abbie’s soulful, scathing, perfectly delivered lead vocal. Damn. This is fantastic.
Where to get it:
Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents @ Q Division 12.11.2015
I’m always down for some Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents. The Q Division Holiday Party made good.
Abbie Barrett And The Last Date @ Q Division 12.11.2015
Another year. Another Q Division Holiday Party. Another wonderful set from Abbie Barrett. Another heartwarming rendition of “Abbie Barrett Makes Christmastime And Every Time A Better Time” by Brendan Boogie.
Black Friday is still terrible. Supporting local art isn’t.
It’s Black Friday. Black Friday is still terrible. Supporting local art isn’t. Here’s a quick list of alternative ways to spend your hard earned dollars than fighting crowds at the chain stores.
- Pick up some new music from a local band. The Sheila Divine, Goddamn Draculas, Party Bois, Worshipper and Weakened Friends have all put out amazing music in the past few months that is worth listening to on endless repeat.
- Help art get made! Abbie Barrett and Walter Sickert & The Army of Broken Toys are making new records. I’m sure they’d appreciate your support.
- Did you know the design and illustration arm of the Daykamp Empire has an Etsy store? You can pick up show posters, art prints and even holiday cards!
- Save your money for the ROCKIN FLEA MARKET + BLOODY MARY BASH! Bridget Haley will have crocheted tacos. They’re amazing. Just don’t eat them.
If you do go out to the stores today, think about keeping it local. Oh, and pick up something for Anngelle Wood’s Spectacular Gift Drive for DCF Kids Fund.
Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents @ Lizard Lounge 11.6.2015
Here are Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents rippin’ up the rug at The Lizard. They make it look easy.
Eric Salt & The Electric City @ Lizard Lounge 9.19.2015
Eric Salt & The Electric City closed out a night of great songs performed by fantastic musicians at a wonderful club. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. We’re lucky to have people like this in our town.
Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents @ The Sinclair 8.28.2015
Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents are Jeff Lynne’s dream R&B band. Or maybe they’re Darlene Love’s favorite new wave band. I can never remember which it is. No matter. They were their usual fantastic selves at The Sinclair.
Abbie Barrett And The Last Date @ Atwood’s Tavern 8.13.2015
Every time I see Abbie Barrett play with her band, I walk away a bigger fan. Her voice and songs have impressive depth. Her wit is keen. Teamed up with the talented folks that make up The Last Date she may be unstoppable.
