Endation are pressing on the nerve. They won’t stop. They want your attention. They need your attention. Now that they have it, they’re not letting go.
Black Fortress Of Opium @ O’Brien’s Pub 12.19.2013
The Wrong Shapes @ O’Brien’s Pub 12.19.2013
Another cold night in Allston after a bit of snow. Sounds like the perfect time to hit up O’Brien’s for a wonderfully eclectic bill. The Wrong Shapes were first on the stage. I still can’t believe they make all of their beautiful, textured music with just two people. I love watching them create all of their layers.
Freezepop @ The Middle East Downstairs 12.14.2013
With snow coming down heavily before the show and expectations of conditions worsening, there was legitimate concern before Indie Rock Ranger’s Holiday Spectacular that people wouldn’t be able to make it out to the show. Thankfully, this one played out like a cheesy Christmas movie. People did come out. Harris Hawk, Animal Talk, Parks and Sidewalk Driver all played amazing sets to a festive and growing audience. Then, Freezepop came out and put a giant electronic cherry on top of this delicious frozen treat. It was a wonderful show, Mr. Bouchard.
Sidewalk Driver @ The Middle East Downstairs 12.14.2013
No snowstorm was going to keep me from seeing Sidewalk Driver at Indie Rock Ranger’s Holiday Spectacular. After all, Glamta comes but once a year…
Parks @ The Middle East Downstairs 12.14.2013
During a snowstorm… At The Middle East Downstairs… As part of Indie Rock Ranger’s Holiday Spectacular… Parks turned “Holiday Road” into a holiday classic.
Animal Talk @ The Middle East Downstairs 12.14.2013
If Steven Kilgore’s smokin’ jacket doesn’t get you in the holiday spirit, perhaps Animal Talk covering “Last Christmas” will. These guys always put on a good show, and this set at Indie Rock Ranger’s Holiday Spectacular is no exception. Let it snow. We’re having a good time downstairs at The Middle East.
Harris Hawk @ The Middle East Downstairs 12.14.2013
Snow. Let’s get that out of the way. A nasty little storm blew in at the worst possible time. That couldn’t stop Indie Rock Ranger’s Holiday Spectacular, though! The show plowed ahead* with Harris Hawk rattling the metal in the mouths of the intrepid concert-goers gathering at The Middle East Downstairs for a remarkable night of music.
* Did I really just type that? Oof. I blame sleep deprivation from a long weekend at The Sinclair. More on that later.
Township @ Brighton Music Hall 12.13.2013
Where is the mystical fountain of classic riffage from whence Township drinks? The band heaved abundant slabs of rolling rock upon the Brighton Music Hall crowd at the Boston Does Boston benefit. They kicked off their set with the Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents cover they recorded for Boston Does Boston Vol. 1 & 2 and never looked back. Magnificent.
Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents @ Brighton Music Hall 12.13.2013
Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents never fail to entertain. Their set at Brighton Music Hall for the Boston Does Boston benefit included holiday numbers, a Township cover* and a bunch of their ’60s-girl-group-meets-’70s-orchestral-pop originals. They’re one of the best live acts in town, nodoubtaboutit.
* Pick up the studio version of the Township cover on Boston Does Boston Vol. 1 & 2.
