Aloud @ Radio 6.9.2012

There’s a fire here. There’s a genuine desire to play the hell out of their songs. Aloud wants your attention. Once they have it, they won’t let go.

Mellow Bravo @ Radio 6.9.2012

There was a very special episode of the Mellow Bravo show on Saturday night. The band set their “party band” image aside for the night and played nothing but sensitive ballads. OK, that’s a lie. No set that includes “Freshman Prom Queen” will ever be tagged as sensitive, but there was a bit of a different dynamic on display at this Radio gig. Mellow Bravo dug deep into some of their more textured material, showcasing the strength of the songs and their ability to play to them. This is one tight outfit.

Animal Talk @ Radio 6.9.2012

Animal Talk brought their dance-infused indie rock cocktail to Radio. That’s a recipe for good times.

Devil On Horseback @ Great Scott 6.2.2012

Devil On Horseback released a new 7″ at Great Scott with a set of space-fuzz-infused-riff-heavy-buzz-o-matic rock ‘n’ roll. Yeah, that sounds about right.

Muck And The Mires @ Great Scott 6.2.2012

Hearing Muck And The Mires play “Saturday Let Me Down Again” on a Saturday night will never get old.

AM Stereo @ Great Scott 6.2.2012

AM Stereo brought their disaster rock to the Great Scott stage Friday night. They played a bunch of old favorites and some tunes off of their fantastic new record, When You Wish Upon A Bar.*

* When You Wish Upon A Bar features design by the lovely and talented Nicole Anguish at Daykamp Creative and photography by yours truly.

Rule @ Church 5.24.2012

Rule opening for Manitoba?* You know I’m there. The band blasted through their set (and a kick drum head!) at Church. Rule doesn’t mess around.

* I know they aren’t local, but I’d be remiss not to mention how great Handsome Dick and his band of merry men were. Hopefully Manitoba will be back around these parts again soon.

Roy Sludge Trio @ Lexington Battle Green BBQ Festival 5.19.2012

What better way to head into Memorial Day Weekend than with some pics of Roy Sludge playing at a BBQ festival? The Roy Sludge Trio, with special guest Kevin Barry* on lap steel, entertained the hungry crowd at the Lexington Battle Green BBQ Festival. Roy’s originals blended perfectly with the group’s tasty cover selections. Great songs, impeccable musicianship and Roy’s voice. That voice! So good.

* Roy Sludge Quattro if you will…

Bang Camaro @ Brighton Music Hall 5.18.2012

Riffs! Solos! Choruses! Dudes! Sweat! Bang Camaro!

Bang Camaro brought their army to Allston. These were their people. This was their crowd. This was their music. They love it loud. Nobody’s going to change them, ’cause that’s who they are.

What a crazy, crazy night…
