As I was editing these photos I got word that Mellow Bravo guitarist Jeffery Fultz is moving to Boise, Idaho. We wish him the best, but this is a huge bummer for ‘Bravo fans. Sad face. The band will soldier on, of course, but we’ll miss Jeffrey’s riffs and showmanship. At least we’ve got some great memories of his time with the band, like Mellow Bravo’s set closing out last month’s big Indie Rock Ranger show at The Middle East Downstairs…

Goddamn Draculas @ The Middle East Downstairs 1.31.2014
Even being aware of the band’s penchant for killer harmonies after seeing them open for Imperial State Electric, I was still taken aback by the way Goddamn Draculas can blend a vocal smoothie. Toss in some big guitars and you’ve got a recipe for… ugh, this is so silly. Forget I said any of that. Wait, don’t forget the part about the killer harmonies. That part was important. Anyway, here are some pics of Goddamn Draculas at The Middle East Downstairs…
The Silks @ The Middle East Downstairs 1.31.2014
Watts @ The Middle East Downstairs 1.31.2014
Watts are a really good band. You know that, right? The big guitars are just the right size, drawing from Nielsen, Petty and The Brothers Young. The songs are equally at home over the radio or PA. Oh, and these guys know how to put on a show. It had been far too long since I had last seen Watts. Thankfully, Richard Bouchard came through with a stellar bill. Watts kicked off the night at The Middle East Downstairs.
Parks @ The Sinclair 1.25.2014
Hey, Parks! We need to talk. Remember, during the snowstorm, when you played “Holiday Road” and it was stuck in my head for weeks? Well, I just got it out and you go and play it again? At least I’ve got “Sweater Weather” and “Modern Fiction” in there, too. Anyway, it looks like the good word about Rock-n-Romp is getting out. January’s edition sold out, with Parks dispensing musical earworms to the crowd of all ages.
Bent Shapes @ The Sinclair 1.25.2014
Rock-n-Romp is such a wonderful thing for rock ‘n’ roll loving families. January’s edition opened with Bent Shapes banging out off-kilter pop numbers that hooked parents and kids alike.
Will Dailey @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 1.23.2014
Hey, that Will Dailey sure can play guitar. And sing. And write songs. And find great players to play with. I think he’s onto something. You probably already knew that. Will and his band closed out a night at TT’s to benefit Revolution of Hope that was organized by Ryan’s Smashing Life and Boston Tweet.
OldJack @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 1.23.2014
Last month I got to see OldJack and Cask Mouse on back to back nights at The Sinclair. This made me happy. Last week I got to see OldJack and Cask Mouse together at TT’s raising money for Revolution of Hope as part of a show organized by the good folks at Ryan’s Smashing Life and Boston Tweet. More happiness. This time around, OldJack played their new record in reverse order. These new songs are really starting to hit their stride in a live setting.
Cask Mouse @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 1.23.2014
Still buzzing from their show at The Sinclair last month, I excitedly made my way to TT’s to catch Cask Mouse. They were wonderful. Again. Even more wonderful was that the night was a benefit for Revolution of Hope organized by Ryan’s Smashing Life and Boston Tweet. Well done, everybody.
