There was a typical early show bustle at O’Brien’s as Dan Nicklin strummed his first few chords. A moment later the crowd would be silent. Dan’s voice commanded and received the undivided attention of the crowd from the moment he began to sing.
The Life Electric took to The Middle East Downstairs stage and closed out the Western Education album release show like rock stars.

Western Education released their new album, Let Your Secrets Out, at The Middle East Downstairs this past Saturday. Their New Wave vibe and riff outbursts went over well with the folks that made it to the club on the official 4th of July cookout rain date.
Barricades helped Western Education celebrate their record release at The Middle East Downstairs with a set of accessible, genre-blending tunes.
When I caught The Susan Constant at TT’s a couple of weeks ago, I was impressed by the new songs they’re working on. While that’s still the case, their show at The Middle East Downstairs this past weekend reminded me that “Midwestern You” is a great set closer.
Air Traffic Controller closed out the celebration at The Sinclair for WERS’ 65th Anniversary. The band and their modern, folk infused indie rock seemed right at home on the big stage.
Good golly, Parks, you are one fine musical group. I’d write a gushing review of your show at The Sinclair for WERS’ 65th Anniversary, but I’ve only got a couple of minutes. I’d rather spend them pre-ordering your record.

I’ve been lucky enough to see a bunch of great Field Effect shows. Some stand out for their overflowing passion. Sometimes they cover David Bowie with Tad McKitterick. Some are just plain fun. Friday night’s show at the Sinclair for WERS’ 65th Anniversary was noteworthy for the band’s confidence. The Field Effect were in control of the situation from the moment they took the stage. The band was great. The crowd sang along. A cassingle was released. I say The Field Effect are A-ok.
