Tad Overbaugh @ Moe’s Lounge 3.10.2012

Tad Overbaugh is the mastermind behind the new Nights In The Round series at Moe’s Lounge. Tad’s songs work great in this stripped down format. Bruce Freisinger joined him, adding some sweet harmonies and fantastic Telecastering.

Jay Allen @ Moe’s Lounge 3.10.2012

Jay Allen was another performer at Nights In The Round #1. Without the Archcriminals backing him up, Jay comes off as a kind of punk rock balladeer with a knack for self-deprecating humor.

Scott Ricciuti @ Moe’s Lounge 3.10.2012

Scott Ricciuti and Jeff Burch (of Scott Ricciuti & Pistol Whipped) brought their roots music and murder ballads down into Radio’s basement for Nights In The Round #1. This new series finds a handful of performers trading off three song mini-sets all night. It’s going to be a recurring thing at Moe’s Lounge. Check it out.

The Bynars @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 3.8.2012

The Bynars were the third band on this fantastic bill to be invited to participate in this year’s Rumble (the other two being Parlour Bells and Animal Talk). From the sound of things, it should be a good one. The Bynars will be bringing their synth-heavy power pop back to TT’s for Rumble preliminary night #5 on April 6th.

Oranjuly @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 3.8.2012

Despite my love of their self-titled album, I’ve somehow never been able to catch Oranjuly live. My loss. Their set at TT’s was as good as I had imagined it would be.

Friday morning the world seemed a little more right…

Parlour Bells @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 3.8.2012

Hey, look! Corsets aren’t just for Jane’s Addiction tribute nights anymore! Glenn DiBenedetto dusted his off for the Parlour Bells set at TT’s.* Was this a Rumble preview set? Maybe. It was certainly Rumble-worthy. Parlour Bells return to TT’s for their preliminary night on April 5th.

* Do corsets get dusty?

Animal Talk @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 3.8.2012

By the end of Animal Talk’s set at TT’s, I was hooked. These guys seem to have stumbled upon same magical concoction of rock, pop and dance music that allows each aspect to shine. I look forward to catching these guys again at The Rumble

Oh! Animal Talk also did a spot-on cover of “Easy Lover”.* I feel like that should be mentioned.

* Brendan Boogie was, perhaps, more excited about this than any adult should have been. Good for him.

Full Body Anchor @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 3.2.2012

After the last time I caught a Full Body Anchor set, I vowed to go see them more often. That turned out to be one of my better decisions. Their set at the Big Queer Rock Show (a benefit for BAGLY – Boston Alliance for Gay and Lesbian Youth) was awesome. Full Body Anchor shows are intense. I love this band.

Too bad Rice didn’t win the raffle prize he wanted. That would have made things really interesting.

Cancer Killing Gemini @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 3.2.2012

Whoa. I don’t know what I was expecting from Cancer Killing Gemini, but it wasn’t this. The band has an early Nine Inch Nails kind of sound, but with more of a back beat. So cool. Their set was aggressive, desperate, invigorating and ultimately very compelling. I look forward to checking these guys out again.

I guess the band’s singer, Eric Michael Cohen, was responsible for putting together the lineup for the Big Queer Rock Show. The night was a benefit for BAGLY (Boston Alliance for Gay and Lesbian Youth). That makes me like Cancer Killing Gemini even more.

Oilhead @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 3.2.2012

The Big Queer Rock Show was a benefit for BAGLY (Boston Alliance for Gay and Lesbian Youth). It all went down Friday night at TT’s. Oilhead took to the stage with an energetic set.
