Boy, howdy! That’s how you start a Rumble night! Endation set the bar high. They may not have won the night, but their heavy art rock blew the roof off the joint. Awesome.

Velah closed out the first night of this year’s Rumble. I continue to be impressed with their high-wire act. Somehow they remain on the tightrope, balanced between the atmospheric and the immediate. They’ve got the songs. They’ve got the sound. Impressive stuff.

Wow. That was my first time seeing The New Highway Hymnal. Intense. I’d call their set hypnotic if there wasn’t such an urgency to it. They owned the night. They won over a whole bunch of new fans. They left the stage in ruins. The New Highway Hymnal took Preliminary Night #1 of the 2013 Rock ‘N’ Roll Rumble.

Cancer Killing Gemini packs a punch. It always catches me off guard. It shouldn’t. I’ve never seen them deliver anything short of a thumping. Their set in the 2013 Rock ‘N’ Roll Rumble was no exception.

The Okay Win had the task of kicking off the 2013 Rock ‘N’ Roll Rumble. The band’s steady buildup showed off their solid tunes. The sound was tangible. The performance was inspired. Well done, gentlemen. You got us off on the right foot.

It’s Rumble season. Every year around this time I’m filled with an equal mix of anticipation and nostalgia. That’s the kind of event The Rumble is. You get to check out 24 of the best bands playing around town in one* fell swoop while making memories that will haunt you you’ll remember for a very long time.** With that in mind, here are 24 reasons why I can’t wait for the 2013 Rock ‘N’ Roll Rumble to get underway on Sunday night. These are in no particular order, but I numbered them 24 to 1*** because that’s what all important lists do. Oh, and here’s the full schedule in case you missed it.

Is it Sunday yet?
* Well, nine fell swoops, I guess.
** Personal experience tells me at least 15 years.
*** Oops. That list reversal attribute in an HTML5 tag. some of you may be seeing this 1-24. Isn’t technology fun?
**** Technically not the first time I saw them, but that’s a story for another time.
**** I missed this show. Sad face. Thankfully there’s this video.
What a great night of music this has been. It’s the Walter Sickert And The Army Of Broken Toys album release show. We’ve already had killer sets by Ruby Rose Fox and The Field Effect. Now, The Rationales are closing with their song “Let It Go.” So good. So, so good.
Oh, hey, look! It’s The Field Effect blowing people away and winning over new fans. This time it happens to be at Brighton Music Hall as part of the Walter Sickert And The Army Of Broken Toys album release celebration, but it could be any one of their shows. The Field Effect have a way with first impressions. It’s fun to watch. Next week they rumble. This could get interesting.
