Jed Gottlieb is quick to shine a spotlight on local bands over at The Boston Herald. He knows what’s what. For this night at Redstar Union, Jed gathered up three acts with a penchant for writing a great pop hook. He’ll get no argument from me about his first pick. Slowdim’s debut record will certainly be on the Top 10 Albums Of 2013 list that I won’t make. These are some of the best songs in town.
I saw Sidewalk Driver three times in eight days and all I have are these lousy pictures. And these. Oh, and these. Each show was special in its own way. I had a blast every time. At The Midway they closed out this year’s Crash Safely benefit with a shower of confetti and whatever it was that Tad did with Gene Dante.
Gene Dante And The Future Starlets brought their glitz, glamour, showmanship and songs to The Midway to benefit Crash Safely.
My Own Worst Enemy rocked their indie/garage hybrid at The Midway for Crash Safely.
Quirky power pop took center stage at the Crash Safely benefit with The I Want You.
This year’s Crash Safely benefit spanned 4 nights and 3 venues. By all accounts, the entire event was a tremendous success. Closing night at The Midway kicked off with Cotton Candy taking us on another twisted trip down memory lane.
Walter Sickert And The Army Of Broken Toys brought steamcrunk to Redstar Union. There was even a special collaboration with Tad from Sidewalk Driver.
Here’s Sidewalk Driver at Redstar Union. The songs were wonderful. The sound was amazing. The lights shone almost as brightly as the band’s performance. Basically, it was everything I had hoped it would be. I can’t wait to see the videos from this one.
Eldridge Rodriguez brought their bluesy noise pop to the ultra-modern Redstar Union for a very special show curated by Richard Bouchard. The raw emotion tangled with the elaborate lighting for an engaging set.
I’ve seen a lot of great shows at TT’s over the years. This here Friday night of the club’s 40th Anniversary week has been another to remember. What a ridiculous lineup. Who could possibly close out a night that has already seen killer sets by The Gravel Pit, Sidewalk Driver, The Field Effect, Emergency Music, Corin Ashley and Kenny Chambers? What’s that? They’ve got The Sheila Divine coming up next? You can’t be serious. Really? Good golly. I just. This is. I… uh… yeah. Amazing.
