When the Pipeline! at 25 lineup was announced, there was a big buzz around The Cavedogs reunion. They were about to prove why. Smart, vibrant, energetic and just plain fun, The Cavedogs rocked and rolled over at Cuisine en Locale.
Orangutang @ The Middle East Downstairs 10.4.2014
Orangutang. ORANGUTANG. When I first started going to a lot of shows around town, Trona, Cherry 2000 and Jack Drag were three of my absolute favorites. Learning that some of these guys had played in a band together blew my mind a bit. I immediately tracked down a copy of Dead Sailor Acid Blues. I loved it. “Bigger Chunk” landed on all of my mix CDs. Despite becoming a huge fan of their recorded work, the thought of a reunion show never crossed my mind. Thankfully, Bob Dubrow is smarter* than I am.
Orangutang reunited for the Pipeline! at 25 celebration and it was amazing.
* Crazier? More ambitious?
Doom Lover @ Redstar Union 9.11.2014
Intensity and atmosphere. Doom Lover hit on both points. Add a healthy dose of harmonies and dynamics and you’ve pulled me in.
The Box Tiger @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 8.22.2014
The Box Tiger came down from Maine to deliver a spirited set at TT’s.
Gozu @ The Middle East Upstairs 8.15.2014
Gozu are a beastly thing and I like it.
Airport @ Atwood’s Tavern 8.8.2014
I will listen in a car.
I will listen in a bar.
I will go to Atwood’s Tavern
I will go where’er they have ’em.
I will watch them here or there.
I will watch them anywhere.
I do so like Airport the band.
I do so like them, music fan.
The New Highway Hymnal @ The Middle East Downstairs 8.2.2014
Fuzzstival closed with The New Highway Hymnal’s primal set reverberating through The Middle East Downstairs.
The Venetia Fair @ The Sinclair 7.19.2014
Here we have The Venetia Fair performing at The Sinclair in all of their flamboyant, theatrical, grandiose, dirty, sweaty, riotous glory.
Magen Tracy @ O’Brien’s Pub 7.11.2014
I’ve seen Magen Tracy perform with Parlour Bells, Nate Leavitt, OldJack, St. Helena, Brendan Boogie, The Phil Aiken Army, The Sheila Divine and Bright Lights, Big Rod.* Friday night was the first time I had the pleasure of seeing her perform her own songs. Accompanied by Nate Leavitt on guitar or alone with her piano, Magen delivered powerful vocals, dynamic melodies and mature arrangements. I like where this is headed.
* Oh, man. I just got all nostalgic for the MixTape shows.
Parks @ The Sinclair 6.27.2014
Good golly, Parks, you are one fine musical group. I’d write a gushing review of your show at The Sinclair for WERS’ 65th Anniversary, but I’ve only got a couple of minutes. I’d rather spend them pre-ordering your record.
OK, here are some photos…
