Ad Frank And The Fast Easy Women @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 7.22.2015

While I would see one more band before this beloved institution turned the lights out for the final time, Ad Frank And The Fast Easy Women would be my true goodbye to T.T. The Bear’s Place. I will forever link Ad Frank and TT’s in my mind. The first photo I ever had published was of Ad Frank on that stage. The Fast Easy Women’s farewell show was one of my all time favorite musical experiences. He was there when I first started started seeing bands play in front of that mural. He’s was there at the end. Goodnight, TT’s.

The Sheila Divine @ Harvard Square Mayfair 5.3.2015

Sometimes you hang out in Harvard Square on a beautiful day and watch bands with your 8-year-old son. Sometimes that boy gets tired. Sometimes you strike a deal with him* to hang out for just two songs from one of your favorite bands. Sometimes, as you’re walking to the T with your little buddy after those two songs, he decides he wants to stick around a little longer and you end up getting to watch a good chunk of The Sheila Divine’s set before everyone goes home happy. Sometimes you have really good days.

* Bribe him with pizza.

Zip-Tie Handcuffs @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 5.1.2015

On the day of the 2015 Rumble Finals, I went back to see what I wrote about Zip-Tie Handcuffs the first time I saw them. Here’s a quote: “The wall of distortion and close-spaced vocal harmonies whipped through the crowd melting faces like the spirits at the end of Raiders Of The Lost Ark.” Yup. Nailed it. First try. Zip-Tie Handcuffs are your 2015 Rock ‘N’ Roll Rumble Champions. I love it.

The Juliana Hatfield Three @ Cuisine en Locale 4.19.2015

Old songs! New songs! Solo songs! The Juliana Hatfield Three played it all at Cuisine en Locale. The trio culled tunes from their two albums* and Juliana’s solo work for the memorable set. The end result was wonderful. The band sounded great. The crowd was appreciative. I can’t think of a better way to have spent a Sunday night.

* There’s a 22 year span between those two records. I love ’em both.

Dirty Bangs @ T.T. The Bear’s Place 4.16.2015

I’m still not exactly sure what I just saw, but it was mesmerizing. Dirty Bangs just owned it. They connected with everyone in the room on an individual and communal level. It was uplifting. It was heartbreaking. It was a rock ‘n’ roll moment. That’s how you Rumble. Dirty Bangs take night four.
