November’s Rock-n-Romp event found Spirit Kid slapping smiles across the faces of the families gathered at The Sinclair. Timeless tunes have a way of doing that.
Once again I find myself posting about Spirit Kid in the 2011 Rock ‘N’ Roll Rumble. This time Emeen and his gang are in the Finals. Once again they’re great. I covered their wild card winning set from Preliminary Night #3. I also praised their fantastic Semi-Final set. Now I’m supposed to find new ways to tell you about the amazing Spirit Kid? No más.
Look, Spirit Kid has more hooks than Gamakatsu International. I’m not going to sit here and blather on about them for the third time in a week and a half just to hear the click-clackery of my keyboard. Just go hit up their Bandcamp page and download this damn near perfect single.
Spirit Kid was the one band in the 2011 Rock ‘N’ Roll Rumble that I managed to catch in each round. Their performance on Semi-Final Night #1 was easily their best. The band seemed both at ease and full of energy. It was urgent and effortless. This was the set that turned Spirit Kid from the band I like into the band I can’t wait to see again.
Spirit Kid won the night.
Spirit Kid put their ’60s pop-inspired songs on display during Preliminary Night #3 of the 2011 Rock ‘N’ Roll Rumble. It was a non-stop hit parade.* Although they didn’t win the night, their performance was strong enough to earn them a wildcard selection.
*Well, not really. However, in a just world, all of these songs would be hits. Also, I don’t think songs can actually be paraded about.
